Wood Lake Fishing Charter with Rodney’s REEL Outdoors

Wood Lake Kokanee - Kelowna Fishing
Kids and Kokanee - Wood lake BC

Wood lake is located a short 20 minute drive north of Kelowna. At 7 kilometers long and nestled between Winfield and Oyama it has been proclaimed as the best Kokanee fishery in Canada for average size fish and numbers. Other fish species present are Rainbow Trout, Perch and Carp. Kokanee are a ‘land locked’ Sockeye Salmon and like Sockeye have red colored flesh and are very tasty. Although they don’t get as big as Sockeye Salmon they do make up for it when hooked. They fight extremely hard leaping out of the water many times twisting and turning trying to throw the hook. The Kokanee fishing season on Wood lake is open from April 1st and runs to August 31st yearly.

Kokanee fishing on Wood lake is extremely well suited for families with young children wanting to learn more about the outdoors and fishing. The bite is usually strong throughout the day making for an exciting day on the water. We had the opportunity to film an instructional Kokanee fishing video that is worth watching. For a guided fishing charter on Wood lake you’ll drive to the Oyama General store, park in the empty lot and we’ll pick you up on the beach. We offer both half day (4 hours) and full day charters (8 hours) and provide cleaning and bagging of your fish at the end of the day should you wish to keep a few for dinner. We supply all fishing tackle, bait and safety equipment needed. You are responsible for your fishing licence, food and drinks for the day. Upon request, we can provide a box lunch at $25.00 per person that consists of a breakfast muffin, custom built sandwich, chips, fresh in season fruit or vegetables and dip, dessert and your choice of water, juice or pop.

We use ultra light tackle when targeting these hard fighting fish and this always puts a smile on an anglers face. Our tackle consists of an assortment of fishing lures from Gibbs – Delta Tackle. These include Wedding Bands, Diamond Dazzlers, Gypsy Spoons and Hockey Sticks. Tipping the lures with pink maggots and corn is a must.
